Wood Soldiers Through Trails in First Loudon Start
Venue: Bristol Motor Speedway
FINISH: 22nd
Start: 19th
Laps Led: 0
NCTS Point Standings Position: 20th
Jack Wood, driver of the No. 91 Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet Silverado RST suffered damage early on in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series (NCTS) event Saturday afternoon but continued through the 175-lap battle for a top-20 finish. The young driver started the race in the 19th position and quickly jumped up to 15th on the restart before a yellow flag fell on the green flag lap. After the first caution of the day, the laps started to tick by and Wood started losing grip fast along with track position. Another caution arose on lap 33 and the driver of the No. 91 Chevrolet reported to his team that he could feel his right rear brakes fading early on and he was building tight in the center. Crew chief Josh Graham called the No. 91 down pit road under yellow and gave the young drive four fresh tires, fuel and a brake adjustment.
Wood had settled in for his journey to the front until a gaggle of trucks bundled up in front of the No. 91 that forced him into the back of teammate Christian Eckes, causing extensive nose damage to his race truck. Graham (Josh, crew chief) called Wood down pit road under yellow to have the No. 91 team assess the damage. They patched up what they could on time limit and came back around a second time for more damage control. Wood caught up to the tail and was able to hold on for a 25th-place Stage One finish. The No. 91 came down pit road again under the stage break for four fresh Goodyear tires, some Sunoco race fuel and one last look around for damage repair. The remainder of the afternoon was spent trying to get track position back as Wood battled really tight conditions in dirty air. The unfortunate incident early on, created a difficult run for Wood and the No. 91 team and ultimately relegated them to a 22nd-place finish at New Hampshire.
Jack Wood Quote:
“Another frustrating day for this team. Super unfortunate getting caught up early like that and spending all our time fighting in the back instead of making our way forward. We will pick our heads up, work hard these next couple weeks at sim and in the shop and see what we can do at the Roval.”
