| Vito Cancilla made a statement in his ARCA Menards Series West (AMSW) debut, driving the No. 20 Home Smiles / Impact Transportation Chevrolet SS to a fourth place finish in the Kyle Busch Classic at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Just one day after turning 15 years old, Cancilla delivered an impressive ARCA AMSW debut. Starting ninth, he moved up to eighth on the opening lap and continued to make progress through the early stages of the 151-lap event. Cancilla continued to gain ground throughout the race, reaching seventh by lap 11 before settling into the top-10 through the opening 50 laps. After restarting eighth on lap 81, he made an impressive three-wide move on the outside to hold his position before working to the inside and taking seventh on lap 87. He continued closing on teammate Mason Massey in the laps that followed, running seventh when the caution flew on lap 119. Cancilla lined up seventh for the lap 131 restart and moved into sixth by lap 145, putting himself in position for a strong finish. In the closing laps, “The Torpedo” lined up sixth for the overtime restart on lap 156. After briefly dropping to seventh, another caution on lap 158 shuffled Cancilla into fourth for the final restart. He held his ground when the field went back to green on lap 166, bringing the No. 20 Home Smiles / Impact Transportation home fourth and becoming a top-five finisher in his very first AMSW start. Vito Cancilla Quote: “I’m super happy to bring home a top-five in my first start. We battled all night long knowing we had the speed, but it was hard pass throughout the middle portion of the race. This race was a huge stepping stone for my career and I learned a lot from tonight. Glad we could bring home a good finish and I look forward to getting back in the car at Kern.” |
