Bollman Leads Most Laps, Finishes Second at Tri City
Venue: Tri-City Raceway
Date: August 9th
Finish: 2nd
Start: 1st
Saturday night’s NAPA Auto Care 150 at the Tri-City Raceway featured a dominating performance by Jake Bollman until the waning laps. The driver of the No. 19 NAPA Nightvision Chevrolet SS finished second after suffering damage from contact with a lapped car just 10 laps shy of the finish. The finish marked Bollman’s third podium result in his fifth start, and the No. 19 team’s third top-two finish in the last four races.
Bollman extended his dominance in qualifying by earning his third pole award of the year with a lap of 19.02 seconds. He jumped out to an early lead and paced the field for the first 17 laps. Former NASCAR Cup Series veteran and 19-time premier series winner Greg Biffle took the lead on a lap 18 restart as Bollman settled into second and preserved his tires for the second half.
After making minor adjustments at the hallway break, Bollman restarted third on lap 81 and immediately reclaimed second position. He jumped into the lead by taking advantage of Biffle contacting a lapped car and immediately began to stretch his lead. Bollman was in full command of the race in the closing laps until a slow lapped car checked up in Turn 1. The check up caused Bollman to contact the No. 74, which brought out an unfortunate caution. The contact caused a gaping hole in the right front headlight with hampered the downforce on Bollman’s Chevy. As a result, he settled into second on the lap 146 restart with five laps remaining and took the checkered flag in the runner-up position.
Jake Bollman Quote:
“It’s unfortunate to end the night like that. We had a super fast NAPA Nightvision Chevy after the halfway break tonight. We’ve had tons of speed lately and it’s great to have fast racecars like that. Just hate that we got tangled up with the lapped cars there. I know it’s racing, and there’s nothing I can say, either. We’re just going to move onto the next one and put this behind us.”
