Wood Perseveres for 12th-Place Finish at Madera

Venue: Madera Speedway

Date: Saturday, September 28th

FINISH: 12th

Start: 5th

Laps Led: 0

Jack Wood finished 12th at Madera Speedway on Saturday night after being involved in multiple incidents. The driver of the No. 16 NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet SS started his day by posting the fastest time in practice. After qualifying fifth for Saturday nights showdown, Wood found himself spun around on lap 10 after battling for the fifth position.

After restarting in the tail-end of the field, he was able to find himself back inside the top-10. On lap 97 while being stopped sideways in the center of track in Turn 3, Wood sustained massive left front damage from another driver who was not able to stop in time and hit the No. 16 Chevy. The red flag appeared while track maintenance was taking place to deal with an oil leak on the racing surface.

Wood came into the pit area for repairs and rejoined the field for the green for the remaining 50 laps. Wood returned to action in 12th-place being three laps down. After being spun out one more time late in the West Coast Stock Car Motorsports Hall of Fame 150, Wood maintained his 12th position to the end of Saturday night’s event.

Jack Wood Quote:

“We had a good NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet and thought we could run in the top three tonight. Just a hard night and unfortunate to get caught up in several messes tonight. We’ll move on, and make up for it at Roseville next week.”
