Eric Johnson Jr. secured the ARCA Menards Series West (AMSW) Rookie of the Year after his eighth-place result at All-American Speedway. The driver of the No. 19 Pacific Office Automation Chevrolet SS scored his fifth top-10 result of the season in the caution free 150 laps at BMR’s home race in Roseville, Calif.
Johnson Jr. began his day for the NAPA Auto Parts 150 after posting the 13th-fastest time in qualifying. The LaCenter, Wash. native took advantage of traffic in the early stages and got himself inside the top-10.
Johnson Jr. steadied out in the field in the ninth position as the pace slowed from tire wear. Just before the halfway point of the race, he encountered a problem with his brake line. In a caution less race and without brakes, Johnson Jr. made it to checkered flag in the eighth position to earn back-to-back top-10 finishes for the first time in his career.
Eric Johnson Jr. Quote:
“After the race, we discovered the PR brake line had failed. Thankfully, all 150 laps went green, so we didn’t have to face a restart without brakes. Overall, I’m just glad we made it through the night in one piece. Never quite found our groove this weekend but we’ll go to work and try to be better in the next one.”
