Drake Focuses On Short-Track Effort As Series Heads To Langley
• K&N Pro Series East Visits Virginia On Saturday
ROSEVILLE, Calif. (June 16, 2015) – The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East heads to Hampton, Virginia this week for the Visit Hampton 175 at Langley Speedway on Saturday.
The race on the .396-mile oval is one of six short-track events in the first half of this year’s series schedule.
Nick Drake finished seventh in the No. 15 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota as a rookie in last year’s series race at Langley. As he prepares to return, the Bill McAnally Racing driver is focused on stepping up his performance.
“We want to improve on our finish there from last year,” said the 19-year-old Mooresville, North Carolina driver. “We’re shooting for a win or at least a solid top five finish. We’ve been working pretty hard to get our short track stuff better. That’s the area we’ve been struggling on lately.”
Drake is seventh in the championship standings, with three top 10 finishes in five starts. With 14 races on this year’s schedule, Drake knows he can’t wait too long to step things up.
“We need to keep digging and put together some top fives and more consistent finishes,” he said.
Drake is a former open-wheel sprint car driver who made the transition to stock cars last year. He capped off his rookie campaign by winning the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Phoenix International Raceway in November.
The Visit Hampton 175 is the sixth event on this year’s schedule. The race, which will be televised on NBCSN on June 25 at 6 p.m. ET, marks the fifth series visit to Langley.
