Drake Looks Forward To Return To High Banks Of Bristol
• Second Year Competing In K&N Pro Series East
ROSEVILLE, Calif. (April 14, 2015) – The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East heads to Tennessee this week for the Pittlite 125 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday.
Nick Drake found out as a rookie last year just how challenging it is to compete on the steeply high-banked, half-mile track.
“Bristol’s a tough place to get around,” said the driver of the Bill McAnally Racing No. 15 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota. “It was pretty cool just being at Bristol. I’d never even been there to watch a race before I went there to run last year. It took me a while to get going.”
After qualifying 22nd, Drake worked his way forward before a flat tire and contact with the wall ended his race early and left him with a 29th-place finish.
“In the race we worked our way forward to the top 10 before we blew a right front tire and knocked the wall down,” said the 19-year-old driver from Mooresville, North Carolina. “We can run top 10 there as long as we can make it to the end of the race this time. It should be fun.”
In his second full season in the K&N Pro Series East, Drake expects to benefit from his experience at Bristol, as well as all the tracks on the circuit.
“Last year was my first time to all those race tracks,” he said. “Now that I’ve been to all of them, I think we’re a step ahead of everyone that’s in the situation I was in last year. We should be in good shape as long as we keep the car under us.”
Drake is fifth in the championship standings, with top-10 finishes in the first two races this season.
A special hospitality area will be featured for NAPA guests at the event.
The Pittlite 125, which will be televised on NBCSN on April 23, is the third event on a 14-race schedule. It marks the fourth series race hosted by the high-banked track.
