K&N East Heads To VIR For Second Road Race
• BMR Drivers Aim To Improve On Career-Best Marks
ROSEVILLE, Calif. (Aug. 12, 2014) – The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East heads to Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia on Saturday for the Biscuitville 125 – the second of two back-to-back road course events on the circuit.
Bill McAnally Racing drivers Cole Custer and Nick Drake are each aiming for career-best road course finishes as the series completes its third consecutive week of competition.
Custer, who drives the No. 00 NAPA AUTO PARTS/HAAS Automation entry, finished 19th at VIR a year ago and then closed out 2013 at Road Atlanta with a fifth-place finish, his top mark on a road course.
A bid for his first road course win came up just short at Watkins Glen on Friday, as he made his move for the lead coming to the checkered flag and skidded off course. The incident resulted in a 16th-place finish.
Drake, in his rookie season in the series, came away from Watkins Glen with a top-10 finish in his No. 15 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota – despite struggling with an ailing transmission. He will be making his first visit to the 2.25-mile Virginia track.
Custer is a member of the NASCAR Next program, which spotlights NASCAR’s rising stars. The 16-year-old from Ladera Ranch, California is competing in select events in the East and West divisions of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series this year and is also racing a limited schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series – where in June he became the youngest driver in the series to win a pole.
He won the K&N West season opener at Phoenix International Raceway in February and scored a K&N East victory at Richmond (Virginia) International Raceway in April. In 19 career starts in the K&N East, Custer has three wins, two poles, seven top-five and eight top-10 finishes.
Drake, 18, of Mooresville, North Carolina, is second in the standings for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award and eighth in the overall championship standings. He has one pole, three top five and seven top-10 finishes in 13 K&N East starts this season, with a career-best series finish of second overall in East-West combination race at Iowa Speedway in May.
The Biscuitville 125 marks just the second visit by the series to Virginia International Raceway. It is the 14th event on a 16-race schedule.
