Daniel Dye sits ninth position in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series (NCTS) point standings after finishing 32nd at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) on Thursday night. The driver of the No. 43 Champion Container Chevrolet Silverado RST suffered a flat tire resulting in him getting collected in an incident. Dye now sits seven-points below the bubble with one race remaining in the first round of the playoffs.
Dye began his day in the seventh position after posting a time of 15.52 seconds in qualifying, ranking highest among his MHR teammates. After his Chevrolet developed a loose condition early in the race, Dye finished in 10th-place at the end of Stage 1 on lap 55 to earn on point.
Under the stage caution, crew chief Blake Bainbridge brought the No. 43 to pit road for his first stop of the night for a wedge adjustment, four tires and fuel. Dye restarted in the 11th position for Stage 2 on lap 66. The improved balance of Dye’s truck helped him maintain his position throughout the course of the second segment, resulting in him finishing in 11th-place at the end of Stage 2 on lap 110. Bainbridge decided to keep the No. 43 Chevy out during the stage caution to retain his track position to begin the final segment on lap 121.
On lap 157, Dye was dealt an ill fate when he suffered a cut right rear tire and spun in Turn 4. The incident resulted in damaged to the left front fender of his Chevrolet after being struck by another vehicle. Dye had to make an unscheduled stop during the caution for the MHR team to assess the damage. The Daytona Beach native soon had to make another unscheduled stop on lap 174 after suffering another right rear flat. Dye took the checkered flag in 32nd position, but only seven markers behind the provisional cut line with one race remaining in the first round.
Daniel Dye Quote:
“We had a pretty good Champion Container Silverado tonight and had a top 10 in the first stage. Unfortunately, a piece of debris cut down our right rear tire. Thank you to all our guys at McAnally-Hilgeman Racing for the hard work, and we’ll go to Kansas ready to redeem this race.”
