Connor Mosack constructed one of his most complete efforts of the season on Thursday night at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) with a seventh-place finish. The driver of the No. 81 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Chevrolet tallied his third top-10 result of his rookie season and second-best finish through 20 races.
Mosack faced an uphill battle with a 23rd-place qualifying effort and had to weather the storm during the event’s first 65-lap segment. The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Chevrolet was too tight for Mosack’s liking in the center of both corners during Stage 1, yet he was optimistic about the truck’s potential given the correct adjustments. After running 21st at the end of Stage 1 on lap 65, crew chief Blake Bainbridge gave Mosack one of the most effective adjustments possible, track position.
On lap 77, Mosack restarted 12th after staying on track while many of the lead lap competitors elected to pit. Mosack managed the second stage like a seasoned veteran utilizing the top lane to advance into the top 10 and hold others at bay. A restart on lap 97 was fortuitous for Mosack as he restarted 10th and fully executed on the outline groove to advance to fifth. While some trucks with 65-lap fresher tires overtook him, Mosack collected four points in seventh position at the end of Stage 2 on lap 130.
Bainbridge called Mosack to pit road under the second stage caution for an adjustment to help his Chevrolet rotate in the center of the corner. The-four tire stop netted Mosack two positions, thanks to swift service by the No. 81 MHR team. The outside lane paid dividends again for Mosack on the lap 142 restart. He lined up eighth, but vaulted to fourth and was well-positioned for the 109-lap green flag run to the finish. His tight condition resurfaced as the night’s longest run wore on, but was able to maintain the seventh position for his third top-10 run of the season, and best finish at “The Last Great Colosseum”.
Connor Mosack Quote:
“Had a pretty fast truck and we made really good adjustments from practice to qualifying to the race, and throughout the race. Didn’t have any issues happen to us, so that was nice. We had a little more speed than where we finished. We got a little bit of damage on the final restart there that got us a little too tight. All in all, it was a pretty solid day. Proud of the speed that we had. Felt like I could have done a few things better in traffic. Maybe would have been fourth or fifth. But overall, happy to have a decent day and kind of be able to build some momentum.”
