Connor Mosack constructed a stout performance on Saturday afternoon at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) and advanced to 17th in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series (NCTS) standings. The driver of the No. 81 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Chevrolet Silverado RST earned 14 stage points and was in contention to compete for the victory before being swept up in a late-race incident and finished 19th.
Mosack posted the eighth-fastest qualifying lap on Saturday afternoon and immediately inserted himself near the front of the field at the drop of the green flag. He launched to second on the opening lap and instantly challenged for the lead. He briefly led on lap six and settled into second on lap eight, setting sail from the rest of the pack. At the end of Stage 1 on lap 30, Mosack ran third and collected eight points.
He made his first four-tire pit stop of the afternoon under the stage caution and received a small adjustment for a loose condition which persisted throughout the first run. Mosack continued to run near the front of the field in the second segment and collected six points in fifth at lap 60.
After restarting eighth on lap 69 following a four-tire pit stop, Mosack maintained position inside the top-10 until the final pit sequence of the afternoon began to unfold. Crew chief Blake Bainbridge and Mosack elected to pit under a lap 84 caution to give themselves enough of a fuel cushion to make the finish. He restarted 19th on lap 91 and drove into the top 10 by lap 116. His afternoon unraveled on a lap 121 restart, as the leader was turned in front of the field which triggered a multi-truck pileup. Mosack sustained significant damage and lost a lap during repairs. He ran out the remaining laps to finish 19th, one lap down.
Connor Mosack Quote:
“We had a really good afternoon going. That was our best, complete effort of the season. Our Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Chevy was free to start the day in the first stage. Then our first adjustment got us tighter, but still really close on the balance and was able to drive back towards the front. We had enough pace to run in the top three and felt like we could get back there after our last stop. Unfortunately, the No. 17 got turned on that restart and everybody just piled in. It’s too bad to finish the day like that, but this will give us a lot of confidence going forward.”
