Connor Mosack recorded a top-15 finish in his maiden outing at Talladega Superspeedway after a topsy-turvy afternoon. The driver of the No. 81 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Chevrolet Silverado RST was resilient after being involved in an early accident in Stage 1 to fight back to the top-five and ultimately finish 14th.
Mosack slotted in 14th during Friday morning’s qualifying session and was hit with adversity shortly after the green flag. While he avoided an early accident on lap four, Mosack’s debut in ‘Dega was thrown for a loop as he was involved in an incident in Turn 2. He suffered damage to the left front fender and spun but was able to avoid major contact. After immediately pitting for repairs by crew chief Blake Bainbridge and the No. 81 crew, Mosack restarted at the tail of the field on lap 13 and drove to 13th position by the end of Stage 1 on lap 20.
Stage 2 restarted on lap 27 with Mosack in 13th and the following laps featured him driving into contention in the lead draft. He ran as high as seventh on a restart at lap 36 and earned three points in eighth position at the end of the segment at lap 40.
Bainbridge kept Mosack on track during the second stage caution which allowed him to maintain his track position and restarted eighth on lap 46. He made a charge into the top five prior to making a scheduled green flag pit stop with several of his Chevrolet brethren. After a caution on lap 65, Mosack restarted ninth and contended for the lead until a misjudged bump draft from behind shot him out of lane and to the tail of the lead draft. A late caution set up an overtime restart where Mosack restarted 15th and took the checkered flag in 14th.
Connor Mosack Quote:
“We had a pretty fast Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Chevrolet. We had a hiccup when we got hit in Turn 2 and spun, but luckily the damage wasn’t too bad. Blake (Bainbridge) and the team did a good job to get it fixed and we still had some speed. After the second stage we were able to get linked up with Jack (Wood) and worked together pretty well to run inside the top-five. Wish we wouldn’t have gotten knocked out of line late because I think we would have had a real shot at it on the overtime restart.”
