Mosack’s Rookie Year Hits Hard Start at Daytona

Connor Mosack’s rookie season began with a 32nd-place result on Friday night at Daytona International Speedway (DIS). The driver of the No. 81 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Chevrolet Silverado RST suffered an obscure issue with the transmission on the starting grid. Crew chief Blake Bainbridge and the MHR crew were able to execute a hurried transmission change to return Mosack to the track and gain four valuable points in the second half of the event.

After the command to fire engines, Mosack’s machine was stuck in reverse and was not able to roll off the grid with the rest of the field. He briefly went to the garage but rejoined the field during an early caution on lap four. However, an issue persisted, and Mosack returned his Chevrolet to the garage area. Bainbridge and the No. 81 team made a full transmission change and returned Mosack to the track in only 21 laps. The willful effort allowed the team to gain four championship points that could prove pivotal in the regular season standings.

“We had a strange issue with the transmission that’s really unfortunate. Sitting there on the grid, I had nothing besides reverse but was able to put the shifter in every gear. I’ve never had that happen. We had to go back to the garage twice, but the team was able to get the transmission changed and got back out there. You never know what those points might mean later this year. I think we’re all even more motivated for Atlanta next week and can’t wait to put this behind us.”
