Jack Wood, driver of the No. 91 Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet Silverado RST bounced back from a rough qualifying run that set him 24th in line to start the 80-lap event to a 14th-place finish in the Millertech Battery 200 at the Tricky Triangle. The young driver wasted no time on his charge to the front as he raced his way up to 19th on the opening lap. Stage One stayed quiet until trucks started to trickle down pit road in strategy to flip the stage. The driver of the No. 91 Chevrolet stayed out and continued to tick off spots as he settled in for a 14th-place Stage One finish after a caution on the final lap relegated the field to a green-white-checkered.
Under the stage break, Wood reported to his team that he was feeling numb in the front of his race truck and just having a hard time keeping up with the track. Crew chief Kevin Bellicourt called the young driver down pit road for four fresh tires with a little air pressure adjustment and some Sunoco race fuel. The team had a quick stop that allowed them to gain some track position off pit road but ended up restarting 14th after the choose.
Wood made his way inside the top 10 on the opening lap of Stage Two and held strong for the remainder of the stage. The Loomis, Calif. native reported to Bellicourt (Kevin, crew chief) that he was lacking rear stability as he fell back to 13th with six laps to go in the stage where he ultimately finished Stage Two. The young driver came down pit road for four tires, fuel and a few adjustments to help give his race truck the rear stability he needed to drive up to the front.
Due to different pit strategies across the field, the No. 91 Chevrolet rolled off 19th to restart the final laps at the 2.5-mile tri-oval. Wood continued his drive to the front and focus forward, as he started to gain back track position. With 33 laps to go, a multi-truck incident broke out just behind the No. 91 where Wood was sitting 13th in line. After battling in the top 15 for the remainder of the race, Wood prevailed to a 14th-place finish at Pocono.
Jack Wood Quote:
“It was a good day for this No. 91 team and I am super proud of these guys for all the effort and hard work they put in. We still have some things to clean up but this is a run in the right direction and a confidence booster for sure. Stoked to get to a road course next week and see what we can bring to the table at Lime Rock.”
