Jack Wood, driver of the No. 91 Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet Silverado RST set himself and his team up for a clean, solid run in the 134-lap NASCAR CRATFSMAN Truck Series (NCTS) event in Homestead. A mediocre qualifying run that lined him up in the 26th position to start the Friday night race allowed him the space to avoid the opening lap incident towards the front of the pack in Turn 3. Wood jumped three spots up to 23rd and held on to that top 25 position for a 22nd-place Stage One finish. Under the stage break, Wood reported back to his team that he was a little on the tight side of handling so crew chief Kevin Bellicourt called the driver of the No. 91 Chevrolet down pit road for four tires, some Sunoco race fuel, and a slight adjustment to free up the young driver.
A quick stop allowed the Loomis, Calif. native to rise a few spots in the line up to restart Stage Two, 18th. An unfortunate green-flag shuffle shook down through the field and sent the No. 91 back to 24th where he ultimately held on for the remainder of the stage to finish Stage Two in the 25th position. Wood was still struggling with tight conditions and had reported that he started to lose a lot of grip on the No. 91. Under the stage break, the young driver came down pit road for four tires, fuel and another small adjustment that sent him off pit road 21st, gaining a few spots to restart the final stage in the 134-lap event.
Wood remained just outside the top 20 as he reported to his team that he was feeling really good and just needed to be better on the restarts to help gain track position. Under caution, the No. 91 came down for their last stop of the night, taking four tires and fuel only and losing no spots on pit road to come out equal, restarting 21st where he ended up settling in for the remainder of the closing laps of the Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Tonight’s effort keeps Wood in the same position of 16th in the NCTS driver standings.
Jack Wood Quote:
“We had a really solid No. 91 Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet tonight we just could not find track position and get out of the back of the pack. It was a clean run and I am super proud of this No. 91 team and all the effort these guys put in to give me great equipment. We struggled a lot with tight handling and that did not seem to go away all night but it started to come to us near the end there and I just wish we had more laps to gain some more track position. Pumped to get back to a short track next week so we will get back to the drawing board and see what we can unload out in Martinsville.”
