Jack Wood, driver of the No. 91 Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet Silverado RST held strong in the NASCAR CRAFSTMAN Truck Series (NCTS) season opener at Daytona until a multi-truck incident collected the No. 91 in the closing laps. The Loomis, Calif. native started his drive to the front after his Friday afternoon qualifying run set him 21st in line to start his night. A flurry of cautions in the Stage One allowed the driver to climb through the field and as the first stage break got underway, crew chief Kevin Bellicourt made the call to stay out and roll of fourth to start Stage Two.
Wood quickly aligned with teammates Daniel Hemric and Tyler Ankrum to find the top lane and cruise. By lap 30, the top lane was forced three-wide as they started to sink through the middle but that did not stop the driver of the No. 91 as he hopped back in line and focused forward back to the front of the pack for a fifth-place Stage Two effort. Bellicourt (Kevin, crew chief) called the young driver down pit road for four tires and fuel and quickly sent the No. 91 Chevrolet Silverado RST to restart the final stage, eighth.
Wood held on to the top-10 position until the team called for a lap 65 green-flag pit stop to top off some Sunoco fuel. Wood was running strong, in contention for the win until caution with 16 laps to go collected the young driver and brought him down pit road for damage repairs. The team sent him back on his way but this incident ultimately relegated the drive of the No. 91 Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet Silverado RST to a 24th-place finish at Daytona.
Jack Wood Quote:
“I felt really good about our run today, despite the finishing number. We had a really fast No. 91 Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet Silverado RST and I am super thankful for Kevin and the guys putting together a truck that was truly in contention for a solid finish all night long. The finish today was typical speedway racing and you just have to prepare for those final lap brawls. We will capitalize on the finish this week and look forward to Atlanta.”
