Wood’s Promising Atlanta Run Cut Short
Venue: Atlanta Motor Speedway
FINISH: 31st
Start: 4th
Laps Led: 0
NCTS Point Standings Position: 18th
Jack Wood’s third start at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) resulted in a 31st-place finish after being involved in an incident just shy of the halfway point. The driver of the No. 91 Klotz Synthetics / Cometic Gasket Chevrolet remains 18th in the NASCAR Craftsman (NCTS) standings after two events.
Wood and his MHR teammates delivered a stunning showing in Friday’s qualifying session by occupying four of the first five positions on the grid. The Californian took the green flag from the fourth position and ran inside the top-10 for the entire duration of Stage 1. Wood wisely stayed committed to the dominant outside lane and ran eighth to collect three points at the end of Stage 1 on lap 30.
After being nabbed for a pit road violation under the stage caution, Wood began to methodically work his way through the field in the second segment. However, after contacting the No. 32 truck on the exit of Turn 4 on lap 59, Wood sustained terminal damage to his Chevrolet.
Jack Wood Quote:
“It’s an unfortunate for sure. Our Klotz, Cometic Chevrolet was fast, and we showed that in qualifying. We were just in a bad spot there and would up getting wrecked and put an end to our day. All of our teammates were super fast today too, so that’s good to see. We’ll head out west and get our season started off right out there at Phoenix in a couple weeks.”
