First Dance with the “Lady in Black” … Saturday afternoon marks Connor Mosack’s first dance with the storied “Lady in Black”. The driver of the No. 81 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Chevrolet Silverado RST is making his 60th combined start in NASCAR’s national series and hopes to stockpile results over the final seven races of the season. For his first Darlington appearance, Mosack is featuring a throwback paint scheme to Kenny Wallace’s No. 81 from the 1998 Bud Shootout as all four MHR trucks are showcasing retro wraps. Wallace scored two NASCAR Cup Series poles while driving the No. 81, a feat Mosack hopes to replicate this weekend at Darlington.
A Sleeper or Spoiler … Mosack and the No. 81 team have been sleepers throughout the season, armed with the speed necessary to run up front and have displayed that throughout the season. A pole award, a season high sixth-place finish at Pocono Raceway and a recent string of earning points in nine of 10 stages have been examples of the team’s strength. While 10 drivers are focused on the playoffs, Mosack and crew chief Blake Bainbridge can be the spoiler over the remaining seven races and upset the championship contenders.
Season to Date … After 18 races, Mosack sits 15th in the standings and can finish as high as 11th in points by season’s end. Mosack earned his first-carer pole award at Atlanta Motor Speedway along with two top-10 results, including his season-best at Pocono.
Tune In … FOX Sports 2 begins coverage from Darlington on Friday afternoon with practice and qualifying at 3:00 p.m. ET. Race coverage kicks off on Saturday with the green flag at Noon ET. Connor Mosack Quote:
On his first appearance at Darlington:
“Darlington is one of the places I’ve been looking forward to. Every lap is a challenge there but there’s a lot of opportunities to make time too. Hopefully we’ll have some speed in the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Chevy this weekend. We’ve been pretty solid speed-wise at the intermediates this season, and Darlington kind of fits in that category. Managing the tires during a run and on pit road will be important. You never know when the last caution will be, so having an extra set in the bank could make your day. Hopefully we can execute a complete day and be towards the front at the end.”
