Staropoli Delivers Top-Five in Sonoma Debut

| Patrick Staropoli’s reunion with Bill McAnally Racing yielded a strong outing on Friday afternoon at Sonoma Raceway, ending in a fifth-place finish. The driver of the No. 20 American Cattle Company / Tractor Supply Chevrolet SS recorded a consistent top-five run in his first appearance in wine country and his first start with the team in 11 years. The Florida native delivered a sixth-place qualifying effort and immediately jumped into the top-five when the green flag dropped. After briefly dropping to sixth on the lap 15 restart, Staropoli regained the top-five spot on the restart following the event’s halfway break. Throughout the 47-lap contest, Staropoli’s Chevrolet was on the tight side of the handling spectrum, yet he managed to navigate his way as high as third on a lap 32 restart. A late caution flew on lap 42 which set up a short dash to the finish as Staropoli took the checkered flag in fifth position. Patrick Staropoli Quote: “It was fun to race with the BMR team again. Big thanks to American Cattle Company and Tractor Supply for making this happen and getting some extra seat time here. Bill [McAnally] and these guys prepared a solid car today. We just lacked a little bit in the front end, tight most of the day. I just needed to be able to complete the corners better to be able to challenge those top two or three. It was a fun day, definitely valuable experience and good to run top-five all day.” |
