Jack Wood, driver of the No. 91 Adaptive One Chevrolet Silverado RST brings home a hard-fought 14th-place finish in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series event Saturday afternoon at Darlington Raceway. Returning from a week off to recover from his hard hit at Watkins Glen, Wood started his day in 25th after the NCTS qualifying session Friday afternoon. The young driver wasted no time on his charge forward as he started to cruise through the top 20 and by lap 22 he was 18th in line and went on to finish Stage One in the 16th position. Wood reported to his team under the stage break that his balance was good but he was lacking rear grip along with the rest of the field. Crew chief, Josh Graham called the No. 91 down pit road for four fresh tires and fuel. A solid stop on pit road saw the Loomis, Calif. native up three spots to restart the second stage.
The driver of the No. 91 had a solid restart and held on inside the top 15 until he struggled finding his line and started to fall back. Wood reported to his team that he felt the balance was a lot better on the short run but he needs help on the long run. A quiet second stage forced the young driver to a 19th-place Stage Two finish. The No. 91 Chevrolet came down pit road under yellow for four fresh Goodyear tires, some Sunoco race fuel along with some adjustments to help the handling on his race truck. Another fast stop by the No. 91 pit crew pushed Wood up a few spots to restart the final stage of the Sober or Slammer 200.
A green-flag shuffle occurred on the restart sending Wood back to 17th and then shortly after settled in back in line 20th. The driver of the No. 91 regained focus continued on in the battled to stay on the lead lap as the field started to spread out. A caution with 20 laps to go arose which allowed the 25-year-old to regroup and come down pit road to grab a fresh set of tires and top off on race fuel, rolling out 15th to restart the closing laps. Wood continued on in the fight to gain a few more spots that ultimately led him to a 14th-place finish at “The Lady In Black”.
Jack Wood Quote:
“Feels great to be back behind the wheel and to have a solid day here in Darlington. I struggled with lack of rear grip all day long which did not allow us to keep the track position we needed but super proud of this No. 91 team for giving me a really fast Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet and coming back strong after the week off. We only have a few races left in the season so we are going to continue on with this momentum and keep our heads held high.”
