ack Wood, driver of the No. 91 Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet Silverado RST had an unfortunate start to the day after a rocky qualifying session sent them back to the garage for adjustments, resulting in the No. 91 starting in the back of the pack. Dust picked up early as chaos broke out in Turn 1 on the start but Wood was clear all the way through. Just before the caution came out, the No. 91 ran hot through the bus stop and “cut the course”, resulting in a penalty from NASCAR to drop to the back. Crew chief Josh Graham took that opportunity to bring Wood down pit road for a quick stop to top off on Sunoco race fuel. With five laps to go in the stage, the young driver sat 27th in line until the pit cycle through out the field started to roll. This allowed Wood to gain track position quickly and mark up to an 18th-place Stage One finish.

The Loomis, Calif. native reported to his team that he felt his overall balance was good and no adjustments were needed. The No. 91 came down pit road for four fresh tires and fuel and was sent on his way to restart Stage Two just outside the top 20. A quiet second stage for the young driver allowed him to work with spotter Tyler Monn on driving adjustments he needed to make throughout the configuration and he was ticking off positions, one by one. Graham (Josh, crew chief) called a different strategy and called Wood down pit road with three laps remaining in the stage for four tires and fuel. Wood was unable to get into straight due to full boxes on either side of him which forced a slower stop than they would have preferred. The young driver finished the stage 22nd, but was able to restart 11th as trucks came down pit road under the stage break.

The driver of the No. 91 held position in the top 10 on the opening laps of the final stage until he was forced to serve another penalty and come to a complete stop on the course, relegating him back to the top 20. Wood battled through the back of the pack on the closing laps until a caution was called with three laps remaining, sending the field into NASCAR’s version of overtime. The No. 91 restarted 18th, fighting every turn until making contact coming to the white sent him back a few spots and ultimately finished his day 22nd in line at the ROVAL.

Jack Wood Quote:

“Not to sure I can say I am a fan of the ROVAL but we did what we could out there. I struggled all day really knowing what I needed. I felt my overall balance on the truck was actually pretty good but fighting for track position and getting into the corners to pass was tough. Three more runs to go in the season and just looking forward to making them solid runs.”
