Jack Wood, driver of the No. 91 Adaptive One Chevrolet Silverado RST was forced to start the 200-lap event at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park towards the back of the pack in 24th after wet weather conditions cancelled the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series qualifying event Friday afternoon. Wood fell back a few spots on the green-flag shuffle but remained unphased as he started to tick off positions shortly after to reach a 20th-place Stage One finish. The young driver reported to his team that he was super tight and needed more turn in the center. Crew chief Josh Graham called the No. 91 down pit road for four fresh tires, fuel and a few adjustments to help free up his race truck.
A solid stop by the crew allowed the driver of the No. 91 to roll out and restart the second stage 20th. The Loomis, Calif. native trickled back a few spots and remained in position for the remainder of the stage until a lap-98 caution came out and put the field under a yellow flag. Wood reported to Graham (Josh, crew chief) that he was still feeling tight conditions in the center and he felt the loss of right rear drive on that last run. Along with most of the field, the No. 91 stayed out and did not chose to pit under caution as the stage end was coming up shortly.
With 14 laps to go in the stage, Wood restarted 21st on the top lane. A gaggle of trucks stacked on the restart, forcing the driver of the No. 91 Adaptive One Chevrolet back to the 23rd position where he ultimately ended Stage Two. Wood came down pit road under the stage break the second time by for a quick stop taking four Goodyear tires and a top off of Sunoco race fuel along with adjustments to help the tight conditions on his race truck.
An uneventful and quiet final stage allowed the young driver to start working his line and making passes to get back inside the top 20. By lap 172, Wood had gained on the 22nd position and made the pass for 21st where he ended his night at the Brownsburg, IN short track. Due to post-race tech inspections, the driver of the No. 91 gained a spot and was scored 20th on the NCTS leaderboard at IRP.
Jack Wood Quote:
“Not the night we wanted for this No. 91 team but we will get back to work, take a look at our mistakes and capitalize on what’s to come at Watkins Glen in a few weeks. Huge thanks to Adaptive One Calipers for all of the support they give myself and this race team each and every week. Time to get back to the drawing board but I am proud of these No. 91 guys and we will find our rhythm and tackle the results we deserve.”
